Objective
This assessment has a purpose to find out critical thinking skills of learners in the identification of appropriate clinical data with particular treatment and management for pediatric patients.
Scenario
Jaundice is the most spreading condition in new born babies which symptoms are as: yellow pigmentation of skin and sclera caused due to the increment of bilirubin in the skin and mucous membranes. The cause of jaundice is the raise level of bilirubin in the body which is known as hyperbilirubinemia. Jaundice is caused in approx 60% of term and 80% of preterm babies in the first week of their lives and approx 10% of babies still suffer from jaundice at 1 month. Such jaundice at early stage of life is generally harmless and named as physiological jaundice. Jaundice is used as a marker for the identification of risk for developing severe hyperbilirubinemia.
Requirement
Describe the precedence of applicable clinical assessment and diagnostic data presented by hyperbilirubinemia babies.
Explain how the nurses should explain the aetiology on the basis of paediatric nursing care, factors of risk for worse hyperbilirubinemia, treatment and support for babies suffering jaundice by nurses.
