The Ocean City, Maryland owes its existence to 1902 when an English person Thomas Fenwick bought this land from the Americans at that era. This city has its coordinates 38°23′29″N 75°4′11″W / 38.39139°N 75.06972°W and comes under the U.S. region. The place is one of the top vacation hot-spot for the visitors because of the aerial way it exhibits of the ocean. As per the statistical figures, this state has current population of 7,104 (Ocean City Maryland 2013). From past couple of years, the visitors are more attracted in summer towards this state because of being one of the top fun adorable cities.

Going back to the history of this state, it owes its existence to Thomas Fenwick. Further, in order to expand business, an entrepreneur built a paying guest room to render and serve basic facilities to the guests visiting the shore. Since the Atlantic region is more on fisheries, so the visitors fond of fishing were seen more in pound boats or if not that to rest in a peaceful place watching the roller-coaster water drives or gather seashells (Ocean City 2013). 

Seeing to the prospects of this region, the government decided to develop the Ocean City. Also acronymed as OC or OCMD, this place soon developed many sea-facing rest rooms. Englishmen then laid down rail road's and connected Philadelphia and other cities directly in order to have more visitors to this land. Also, planned streets and buildings were projected and structured in 1875. As per the census of United States of America dated 1880, the Ocean City, Maryland or White Marlin capital of the World recorded only fourty eight people in the town.

Protecting against the strong waves and unpredictable climatic change, United States government constructed a “Life Saving Station” in the year of 1878 so that people could be secured and shipwrecks can be avoided. There are many incidents where this life saving station rescued people (Hurley and Hurley 2012). 

Government noticed the Ocean city as a major tourist spot lending a hand on to the generation of funds for it by pulling the eyes of business tycoons to invest money. In regard to this, a decision was taken to form a union whose sole responsibility will be to develop the land. This city was then named as The Ladies Resort to the Ocean where few sea-side hotels were built to attract more visitors. City was in and all developed to have more of tourists. First hotel - Atlantis Inn with 400 rooms was opened in the city in the year of 1875. Apart from the beautiful sight of sea, the Hotel also gave basic amenities like billiards and ball-dance rooms to its visitors that time (Schwartz 1964 2-3). 

The rail road facility was also developed and connected various cities like Baltimore, Washington. After the major hurricane in the year of 1933 destroyed many beauties of the state. The state Government took preventive measures and constructed the Ocean City Inlet which created a line of separation between Assateague Island and Ocean City. The major fishing spot being this state never let the reduction in the visitor count. Also completion of Chesapeake Bay Bridge in 1952 gave easy portability to other cities to explore Ocean City. City gained its prominence in late 1970s when big business houses were set up and flourished the town with spectacular sights. 

Discussing on to the recent history of Ocean City, it can be said that total population of the city in the current context is near about 8000 people. In spite of being small, city provides numerous opportunities for jobs to youth. In summers, arises business plus job opportunity due to tourism since a rush of the visitors is more at this time. For supporting and maintaining law and order proper police force, firefighting staff and cost guards are deployed at various places. Tourism in winter is also at pace. Unlike many other places, many restaurants and hotels do good business in winter due to traffic from Golfer and city convention center.

Government also has beautifully constructed a memorial which is made for the firefighters who lost lives in incident happened in Sept 11. Now tobe alert and ready for such incidents a Firefighting convention is organized annually in the Ocean city of Maryland.

In August, world largest tournament “White Marlin Open” held here which becomes the center of attraction for the world. The most attracting part was the highest prize money kept i.e 1 million dollar (Ocean City 2013) .
