1. Why planning is required for the tourism and travel industry
Requirements: for achieving the aimed objectives for example improved employment opportunities, involvement of the stakeholders and also public/private partnerships, and effective use of resources
2. What are the various approaches to tourism planning and developments
- Planning: environmental, economic, social, international, national, regional, local, strategic, short term, qualitative, quantitative, models such as Cambridge economic impact model and interactive planning systems and processes
- Development: The new build-up, preservation, and conservation.
3. For maintaining sustainability in tourism, what is the role of planning
Sustainable tourism: The principles of the sustainability development, world travel and tourism council(WTTC), and triple bottom line
Principles: consideration with respect to the planning, its advantage to the environment, the hosting community, factors of supply of facilities, future generations, and sustainable change.
4. Reflect on the issues at present related to the tourist development planning
Present issues: the conflict that will highlight the tension between a planner, Tour operators and the government, guest host relationship, impacts, and moral and ethical issues
5. In developing countries, explain the impact of socio-cultural, environmental, and economic factors
Socio-cultural- social change, changing values, commercialisation of the culture, customs, and traditions followed, and also the preservation of the heritage

In the Middle East, Qatar is considered rich in terms of culture and history. Qatar host the 2022 FIFA World cup. Business conferences were also hosted by Qatar annually. In order to meet the increasing demand, Qatar is building more hotels.
For sustainable long-term development and economic diversification, the tourism sector is considered as the priority sector with respect to Qatar. As a stimulant for sustainable tourism development, the tourism authority of Qatar launched Qatar's national tourism sector strategy.
Observing the figures of the last year, it came to the view that 1.235 million travellers crossed the borders internationally in one single year. The world tourism day is celebrated with the objective of the giving respect to nature, culture and host. For the achievement of goals of sustainable tourism development the authority of the Qatar Tourism and also its partners in public and private sector is associated with the organising of some training events for all the stakeholders engaged in travel and tourism sector with the aim of creating the awareness of impact of tourism and the need for sustainable business practices.
Task 1 (Approx 800 words)
Consider that you have been employed as a junior consultant at an international tourism consultancy based in London, UK. A training contract has been provided by QTA to your consulting firm for the purpose of organising the workshops on sustainability. The line manager in your role asked you to prepare a leaflet that will depict the requirement of planning in the travel and tourism industry in the context of Qatar. The leaflet will demonstrate the followings-
